Every Child Deserves Support, Hope, and Opportunity
At The Helm Foundation, we believe every child deserves the support and opportunity to thrive. Through literacy initiatives, direct support, and community partnerships, we bring hope and encouragement to vulnerable children and families across the United States.
A Mission Shaped by Experience
The Helm Foundation was inspired by founder Marc Helm and his lifelong commitment to helping vulnerable children and families. While serving in Vietnam, Marc volunteered at an orphanage, reading to children who had lost their families during the war. Their resilience and joy left a lasting impact on him and shaped his belief in the power of compassion and human connection.
After returning home, Marc continued serving children and young adults facing developmental, medical, and financial challenges through church and community programs in Alabama. Those experiences became the foundation for a mission that continues today through support for children’s hospitals, literacy initiatives, and organizations serving vulnerable youth across the nation.
Papa’s Adventures
Inspiring Children Through Storytelling
Papa's Adventures is a children’s book series written by Marc Helm and inspired by adventures with his grandchildren.
The series was created to encourage imagination, curiosity, and meaningful family connection through storytelling. Each story reflects themes of adventure, learning, kindness, and wonder while creating moments that children and families can enjoy together.
The books also support The Helm Foundation’s broader mission to promote literacy, emotional well-being, and access to educational opportunities for children in need.

Expanding Access to Books, Literacy, and Opportunity
Books do more than teach children to read — they inspire confidence, imagination, and hope.
The Books for Impact Initiative helps provide children across Texas with access to meaningful reading materials that support learning and emotional well-being in schools, hospitals, and underserved communities.
Books for Impact Initiative
-
The Helm Foundation partners with elementary schools across the U.S. to donate books to classrooms and school book fairs. Schools keep 100% of the proceeds to support supplies, resources, and student programs.
Through literacy-focused fundraising, we help strengthen students, schools, and the communities they serve.
-
For children facing serious illness, books can provide comfort, imagination, and hope during difficult times.
Through partnerships with organizations such as Texas Children's Hospital, The Helm Foundation donates books to young patients and families, offering encouragement and support when it matters most.
-
The Helm Foundation partners with nonprofit and community organizations across the U.S. to provide books that support literacy, education, and family engagement.
These partnerships help expand access to reading materials while strengthening the important work happening throughout local communities.
-
The Helm Foundation supports immigrant children and families by providing books that encourage learning, comfort, and connection during times of transition.
As the initiative grows, we plan to expand access to translated materials, including Spanish-language books, so more children and families feel welcomed, supported, and empowered.
Read Together. Give Together.
Books have the power to open doors, inspire confidence, and create moments of peace during difficult times.
At The Helm Foundation, we believe access to literacy is also access to opportunity. Through the Books for Impact Initiative and our broader work with children and families, we are committed to helping young people experience hope, dignity, and the support they need to thrive.
