Honoring Service Through Action, Healing, and Support

At The Helm Foundation, we believe supporting veterans goes beyond gratitude — it means standing beside them long after their service ends.

Many veterans return home facing physical injuries and unseen challenges. Through partnerships, advocacy, and direct support, we help veterans and their families access the care, resources, and community they need to heal, rebuild, and move forward with dignity.

A Mission Rooted in Personal Experience

The commitment of The Helm Foundation to veterans is deeply personal to founder Marc Helm, a Vietnam veteran who understands the lasting impact of military service.

Like many who served, Marc returned home carrying both visible and invisible wounds, including the loss of close friends and lifelong health challenges connected to his service.

His experiences shaped a belief that veterans should never face these challenges alone, especially when it comes to mental health, rehabilitation, medical care, and family support.

Supporting Veterans Beyond Service

At The Helm Foundation, we are committed to addressing the gaps many veterans face as they transition into civilian life.

Whether navigating trauma, isolation, disability, or a new chapter after service, we believe healing is built through access to care, strong support systems, and meaningful community connection.

We support organizations and initiatives focused on:

● Mental health and emotional healing
● Suicide prevention and crisis support
● Rehabilitation and recovery programs
● Prosthetics and adaptive care
● Family-centered healing services
● Long-term wellness and stability for veterans

Because service does not end when military duty is over — and neither should support.

Organizations We Support

The Helm Foundation proudly supports and recognizes organizations dedicated to improving the lives of veterans and their families, including:

  • Lone Survivor Foundation

  • Gary Sinise Foundation

  • The American Legion

  • The Disabled American Veterans (DAV)

  • The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)

  • The Vietnam Memorial Fund

The Helm Foundation also values partnerships with organizations working to expand access to mental health care, rehabilitation resources, and long-term support for veterans nationwide.

A Story of Service, Sacrifice, and Survival

In addition to his philanthropic work, Marc Helm is the author of Six Years, Nine Months, 23 Days, a personal memoir of service, survival, and life near the frontlines of Vietnam.

Through Marc’s story, readers experience:

● Life near the DMZ and northern bases of South Vietnam
● The pressure of serving as a military codebreaker
● Near-death experiences and the uncertainty of war
● Moments of humor, love, and humanity amid conflict
● Reflections on resilience, patriotism, and sacrifice

More than a war memoir, the book offers a powerful look at the experiences of an ordinary soldier navigating extraordinary circumstances.
